The places where Halifax protests

The map below shows the different locations in downtown Halifax where protests and demonstrations typically take place. Historically, protests have mostly taken place at one of three major locations; Grand Parade Square, Victoria Park and the Halifax Common. Grand Parade  Square has been the top choice among organizers of protests and rallies, likely due to its  central location and abundance of space.

Many recent protests have also taken place outside of conference spaces and other areas of significance, such as the 2008 protest against the Halifax International Security Conference, which took place outside of the Westin Hotel where the conference was being held. Many demonstrations have also been held outside of Province House and in spaces where local politicians typically meet. The coloured lines on the map show popular routes for marches.

There are few options for organizers to choose from, as Halifax is limited in size and traffic is often congested in the downtown area.
