Creativity and ‘flair’ dominate Halifax’s activist scene

Included in Halifax’s small town charm is the fact that it’s not hard to be seen in public when you want to be. Activist organizations are using this to their advantage more than ever, coming up with new creative ways to gain the attention of local politicians and people in power.

This audio-visual essay documents the activities of four different activist movements that took place in Halifax during the fall of 2012. Their methodologies are as different as their initiatives, but they all display the underlying drive for public awareness.

Included in the video is an audio clip from Howard Epstein, MLA for Halifax Chebucto and former Executive Director of the Ecology Action Centre, one of Halifax’s best known activist organizations. Epstein discusses the importance of the protest in fostering true political change.
